Since 2012, Sulubaaï Environmental

Foundation has been conducting

a sustainable island management

programme on Pangatalan Island,

Palawan, Philippines. The objective

of the programme is to set up a

local development funded by

ecotourism to support the local

populations and resources,

improving ecosystems management

and facilitating their resiliency.

To achieve this, a 40-hectare

marine protected area surrounding the

island was established to help

the badly damaged ecosystems

in the area recover. The main problem

was the degradation of the reefs’
