FEATURE SAVING SHARKS

Educating the Generations of
Today and Tomorrow
Shark Guardian is a UK Charity for
shark and marine conservation projects
worldwide. Liz Ward-Sing and Brendon
Sing are the directors of Shark Guardian
and together, they have over 20 years of
shark diving and research experience.
Shark Guardian has four main
operational arms including Conservation
Activities, Educational Programs,
Research Projects and Shark Diving
Expeditions.
Under these operational arms, Shark
Guardian has been involved in numerous
ongoing programmes such as giving
presentations to over 25,000 students in
schools all over the world, particularly
in Asia. They have also published a shark
book for children, which is donated to
schools worldwide and is currently in
the process of being translated into
other languages.
Shark Guardian also collaborates
and leads several shark research
projects with other experts. Working
together with eOceans.org since 2014,
Shark Guardian has contributed to
over 12,000 data entries regarding
shark observations in Thailand. The
information is gathered over thousands
of dives on both the east and west
coasts of Thailand by hundreds of
divers over four years. This information
has now created an opportunity for a
national plan of action for sharks for
the first time in Thailand. Eventually,
Shark Guardian hopes that sharks will
become more protected in Thailand as
a considerable amount of the Thailand
economy relies on diving tourism.
In 2016 and 2017, Shark Guardian
organised a shark diving expedition to
South Africa for the famous Sardine
