Cavalletto

For Angelo Mangiarotti modularity
has been a central concept around
which to develop his thinking and the
Cavalletto shelving system has provid-
ed a testing ground for exploring its
versatility. Over fifty years later, this
system in wood for interiors continues
to be successful on account of its high-

ly functional design. The basic module
is an element with an upside down “V”
shape that can be stacked on top of
other similar elements and held by
gravity and thanks to a dovetailed joint,
can accommodate shelves for books or
enclosed containers.

Massimo Castagna recognises the
living room to be the central space in
the house and as such has designed a
range of upholstered seating in which
the key words are customisation and
modularity. The modular matrix of the
design allows great freedom of choice
from a large number of spatial

configurations: straight, corner, with
chaise-longues as side extensions with
or without backrests, with or without
armrests and with the insertion of small
tables at the points where they are
needed, to interpret, respond to or
suggest a free and informal sociality.

Chester Line

The Chester Line does not represent
merely the evolution of the iconic sofa
designed by Renzo Frau in 1912 but a
complete of gear: from sculptural
presence to open architecture. Taking
account of the new gestures that
characterise current ways of inhabiting
the home, the sofa becomes lighter and
breaks up into a system with five
different elements: chaise longue and
chair, both without arms, pouf and two
corner-end sofas.

Neil

The Neil system is distinguished by its
low seat, generous forms, and the square
profile of the back and armrests that
are angled slightly outwards to give it
a more welcoming appearance. Open
to various configurations, in the version
with low back and armrests this sofa
invites the user to assume a more
relaxed position while the version with
the high back is more indicated for
receiving guests.
