START YOUR


BUSINESS


to develop your skills and potentially
give your business a boost, any course
you embark on should be approved
by the British Horse Society (BHS) or
Association of British Riding Schools
(ABRS). You can train by attending
college, through an apprenticeship, at a
riding school, or through private study
and distance learning. Depending on
the kind of riding you want to teach, you
can complete basic training, or progress
through into more advanced courses. 

STARTING OUT
If you want to start small and are
already well-connected within your
local horsey community, chances
are you can offer lessons before you
start training. This gives you a chance
to test the waters to find out if this
really is what you want to do – and
how far you want to take it. You may
be quite happy teaching a few hours
on a Saturday morning and want to
keep it as something you do alongside
your day job. If you do decide to follow

f you’re an experienced horse
rider, have the skills to motivate
others and love being out in all
weathers, teaching people how
to ride is a great way to run a business
doing what you love.

QUALIFICATIONS


You don’t need any qualifications
to teach people to ride, but chances
are you’ll drum up a lot more work if
you have the relevant training under
