Our Heritage

Pope Francis counts himself as a grandfather, too!
Here he meets with children at the Paul VI Audience Hall.

GRANDFATHER TO ALL

OUR LOLO KIKO

The Holy Pontiff himself
feels like a grandfather—Lolo
Kiko is a nickname he gladly
accepted during his visit to
the Philippines in 2015. This
is why, whenever he addresses
grandparents during meetings
and audiences, he not only takes
their side, but counts himself as
one of them. He exhorts them,
and himself as well, when he
says, “Being old is a vocation. It
isn’t the time to hang up one's
boots.” He adds, “This period
of life is different from the
previous ones; we even need to
‘create it,’ because our societies
aren’t ready—spiritually and
morally—to fully recognize its
value."

Lolo Kiko feels we must also
remember our old prayers.
He says, “We become poets
somewhat of prayer, we like
to seek our own words. Let’s
regain those taught to us by
the Word of God. Prayers of
grandparents and older people
are a great gift for the Church!”
