2 Murder Most Foul The Bad Girl Of Death Row

While her victim screamed

and pleaded for her life

for an hour, Christa Pike

stabbed her with a meat

cleaver and a box cutter

before breaking open her

skull with a heavy piece

of asphalt. That’s how she

became the youngest killer

on Death Row...

LOWLY BUT surely, Christa Pike

was getting to dislike her fellow-

student Colleen Slemmer. Actually,

dislike is an understatement – hate better

describes it. “That little bitch needs to be

taught a lesson,” she confided to another

student.

This was dangerous talk, because

18-year-old Christa Pike was a Satanist

• a disciple of Satan. More than that, she
  styled herself the Devil’s daughter.
  The root of the problem with Colleen
  was as old as Adam – Christa thought
  Colleen fancied her boyfriend.
  The boyfriend was also a student –
  called Tadaryl Shipp – and he too liked
  dabbling in the occult. Almost as soon as
  Christa started dating Shipp, Colleen, it
  seems, was getting in close. Too close for
  Christa’s liking.
  “I’m warning you, stay away from
  him,” Christa said through gritted teeth.
  There it might have ended, except that
  Christa started a few nasty rumours
  about Colleen, and when Colleen got
  the feedback the two teenagers came
  to blows. That was scary for the other
  students.
  The absurdity of the situation was
  later revealed by friends of Colleen, who
  claimed that she had no romantic or
  physical interest in Christa’s boyfriend,
  and the whole scenario was a figment of
  Christa’s jealous imagination.

hrista Pike’s family came from

North Carolina. Her boozy mother

often forgot her daughter was around,

so Christa grew up meeting various

“uncles” her mom brought home. It

was a libertine household; when Christa

was 14 she had a live-in boyfriend with

whom she had a sexual relationship. In

the evenings mom would bond with her

daughter by smoking pot with her.

After leaving high school with nothing

to show for it, Christa decided she should

get some education, so she joined the Job

Corps. This was a programme run by

the State for low-income youth, offering

vocational training and career skills. At

the Knoxville, Tennessee, centre she

met Colleen Slemmer, 19, a computer

.
