A FOUR-DAY familiarisation tour for 120 international convention and
exhibition professionals was hosted by Sands Resorts Macao in June
following the success of a similar event last year.
The Ultimate Download – Asia’s Leading Meetings and Events
Destination – took place from June 25 to 28 to highlight the range of
services and facilities on offer at the integrated resorts’ seven hotels,
as well as Macau’s wider cultural and heritage attractions.
Meetings professionals and media from Greater China, Australia,
New Zealand, USA, Europe, Japan, Korea, Singapore, India, Malaysia,
Indonesia and Thailand attended the event, which kicked off with Bon
Vivant, a French-themed welcome cocktail party at Parisian Ballroom,
The Parisian Macao.
Day two saw guests participate in Ultimate Connect, a mini-
conference with a Q&A session covering a range of meetings and
events industry topics. Other events included Ulti-Mart, which
showcased Sands Resorts Macao’s properties and facilities as well
as focusing on Macau as a destination, and Ultimate Chef, which saw
delegates form teams to take part in a cooking contest.
The final event was Ultimate Show Time, which included a pre-gala
dinner and cocktails at The Venetian Ballroom with a black and white
theme and Venetian-style masks.
During the gala dinner, Sands Resorts Macao showcased its
gourmet dining, entertainment and audiovisual facilities.

DISRUPTION across the travel industry is among the topics being tackled by
speakers from Facebook, Microsoft and Trip.com at ITB Asia 2018, at Sands Expo
and Convention Centre in Marina Bay Sands, Singapore, October 17-19.
The keynote addresses will be delivered by Nikhilesh Ponde, Facebook’s global
head of travel strategy; Shane O’Flaherty, Microsoft’s global director of travel, and
Xing Xiong, CEO of Trip.com, one of the world’s leading
online travel agencies.
O’Flaherty will discuss how digital
disruption will change travel habits and
the way in which business is done.
He will also share his thoughts
on how to create a seamless
customer journey and empower
employees for greater
efficiency and creativity.
Day two’s keynote will be
a new intermediaries panel
session and will focus on how
OTAs, meta-search engines and
new agencies are giving rise to
deep customer data and analytics.
On day three, China’s outbound
travellers and how their spending
power will be tackled. Speakers include
Alessandro Dassi, Thomas Cook’s CEO and
general manager, Greater China & Far East; Troy
Liu, founder & CEO of Mileslife and Changle Yang, COO of Tujia who will provide
insights on connecting travel brands with Chinese millennials, new trends and how
to market destinations to tech-savvy Chinese travellers.

ITB Asia 2018 sees boost in


support from hotel groups


PACIFIC Asia Travel Association and Skål
International have signed a memorandum
of understanding to mutually support
associations “to encourage the sustainable
development of tourism as a means
of promoting international understanding
and appreciation”.
The agreement was signed in June at
Macau Fisherman’s during the 47th Skål
Asia Area Congress, which saw more than
170 delegates and guests from 23 clubs
across 18 countries and regions gather.
