More magic
please
Your cover story on clean meat
was informative; one should
know that by producing meat in
controlled conditions the high-
est quality can be maintained.
More importantly, it would help
reduce the slaughter of so many
animals on a daily basis (‘What’s
at steak?’ July 15). Yes, people
love meat, and the appetite for
meat is only increasing each
passing day. But, don’t we feel
sad for the animals that are
killed on a daily basis for our
consumption?
In order to feed the world,
we need to produce meat ef-
fi ciently. Our food habits are
not at all healthy. We should be
extra cautious in what we eat
and drink.
I applaud Dr Uma Valeti for
developing green meat in his
laboratory. I hope more magic
comes from his research.
GAURAV TRIVEDI,
On email.
Your cover story was intrigu-
ing. In the time of digital age,
when people are immensely
cautious about their food and
lifestyle, vegetarianism, with
herbal and organic craving for
natural products, is the way
forward.
The basic defi nition of sci-
ence is systematised study of
knowledge that must endeav-
our with sustainable solutions
for humanity than unleash
sophisticated efforts for eco-
nomic opportunities to bridge
the demand and supply gap.
In such antithetical situation,
one should not get attracted to
what is new but remain with
what is natural.
MOIN SYED,
On email.
Unhealthy food habits and
untimely eating are so common
among today’s youth. It is very
important that the working lot
should spare some time for a
balanced diet. Eat healthy and
live healthy.
ARATHI RAGHUVEER,
On email.
Dr Valeti and his team have
done great work, but I am not
sure if people will do what he
wants them to do. Many of
us do not believe in anything
artifi cially made, especially food.
Also, raising animals for meat
is an expensive affair, but I sup-
pose there is no way out of it.
All said, most meat produced
in the market is fi lled with
antibiotics and hormones, that
can lead to deadly diseases like
cancer.
ANUP CHANDRA,
