PET SEMATARY
RELEASED: 5 April 2019
DIRECTORS: Kevin Kolsch, Dennis Widmyer
DISTRIBUTOR: Paramount
Based on casting alone, it defi nitely seems like Starry Eyes
duo Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer were smart choices for this
new take on King’s most brutal horror. Jason Clarke will star as Louis
Creed, and joining him on his trip to the ancient burial ground past
the old pet cemetery are Amy Seimetz as his wife Rachel and, perhaps
most excitingly, John Lithgow as Jud Crandall. If the fi lm is anywhere
near as good as that fi nal piece of casting we should be in for a damn
good time. No word on whether or not a new Zelda will be screeching
her way into our nightmares yet...

IT: CHAPTER TWO
RELEASED: 6 September 2019
DIRECTOR: Andy Muschietti
DISTRIBUTOR: Paramount
Production is well underway on the follow up to last year’s monster
horror hit and the big question is: can it can live up to its fl oating
predecessor? The casting for the adult Losers is an intriguing mix of big
names (James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain), excellent familiar faces (Bill
Hader, James Ransone) and lesser-known stars, while the kids are back
for a fl ashback or two. We’ll be very interested to see if Muschietti and
Bill Skarsgård can pull off the transition between terrifying kids and
terrifying adults. As long as they avoid crappy giant spiders, we should
b e fi n e.

DOCTOR SLEEP
RELEASED: 24 January 2020
DIRECTOR: Mike Flanagan
DISTRIBUTOR: Warner Bros
Ewan McGregor will be stepping into the shoes and shine of
Danny Torrance in the movie of King’s Shining sequel, and he’s a very
strong choice to take on the haunted, tortured soul the little lad has
grown into over the intervening years. Mike Flanagan (Oculus, Gerald’s
Game) is one of the best genre directors working and has a real talent
for balancing heartache and scares. Speaking of scares, Rebecca
Ferguson will be starring as Rose The Hat, the terrifying leader of a
gang of monsters coming for the life essence of young shiners.

THE TOMMYKNOCKERS
RELEASED: 2020 TBA
DIRECTOR: James Wan
DISTRIBUTOR: Universal
Details are still thin on the ground for James Wan’s reboot
of King’s 1989 doorstop, which is mostly famous for being the last novel
he wrote before he cleaned up. Previously adapted into a miniseries
starring Jimmy Smits, it’s the story of a small town that falls under the
sway of a crashed alien spaceship in the woods, and there’s defi nitely
the potential for something interesting. Or, at the very least, barking
mad. Universal has set it for a 2020 release.

FIRESTARTER
RELEASED: 2020 TBA
DIRECTOR: Fatih Akin
DISTRIBUTOR: Universal
Blumhouse and Akiva Goldsman are working on a new
version of King’s novel about a telekinetic young girl and her father on
the run from a shady government agency. Goldsman was previously
attached to direct, but that role has now been fi lled by Fatih Akin,
who’s fresh off the success of arthouse favourite In The Fade.
