Resident evil 2

If the survival horror games of your youth
still haunt your nightmares, congratulations,
it’s time to relive them all over again in
glorious – gorious? – 4K. Even better news
is that this version of Resident Evil 2 is no
mere lick of HD paint. This is more than
just a remake of the 1998 classic. Like
a grim cocktail of terror, this version of
Leon S Kennedy’s adventures mixes the
claustrophobic over-the-shoulder camera
angle of Resident Evil 4 with the engine of
the latest scare-fest Resi 7. From what we
have seen, the results are as horrific as you
would expect.
While Capcom has promised that this is
more than just a straightforward remaster,
the majority of your childhood trauma
remains. Tank controls might be gone but
the iconic Lickers are back to hunt you, and
we’ll be returning to Racoon City with Leon,
Claire Redfield, Ada Wong, and very limited
ammunition. When it comes to changes
though, the Leon and Clare campaigns have
been tweaked and refined and, because
Capcom still wants to scare you, enemy
encounters have been switched around and
upgraded. Great. One last piece of good
news though. While we’ll still be saving
at typewriters, you don’t need an ink ribbon
to do it. Yay? Pass that green herb. We’re
going to need it.
