But the internet isn’t all
princesses and fun adventures. As
one scene we saw shows, Ralph
Breaks The Internet will also touch
on the darker side of things, with
Ralph coming across some cruel
online comments. “I think it’s
important when you tell stories
to figure out if there are ways to
give an ‘in’ for parents to have a
conversation with kids themselves,
and so that comments room is one
of a few scenes in the film that we
hope will start a conversation,”
Spencer says. Which isn’t to say
that the film is a depressing movie
about online bullying and growing
apart from your best friend. It looks
like being a fun romp stuffed with
gags and fond parody.
But don’t expect the animators
to have been tempted to sneak the
seedier side of the internet into
the movie. “There are parts of the
internet that we joked about, but
know that within a Disney film
you’re never going to see,” Spencer
says. We can only assume he’s
talking about online bingo.
