COVER STORY I TRAVEL
Light
Brigade
A
mong their
finest luxury
properties, the
ITC Kohenur
offers experiences that are
opulent while imbibing
local flavours. Its name
draws on the famed dia-
mond originally believed
to have been mined in the
Golconda region and it is
seen as a design marvel.
Unconventional and artsy,
the façade widens as it ris-
es, inspired from the fac-
ets of a diamond. In fact,
that’s the leitmotif right
from the unique angular
design of the building, to
finer décor elements in-
cluding artfully designed
lattices carved in stone in
the lobby, and the walls
of the guestrooms. All
rooms are designed to
capture abundant natural
light by design. The lively
Peacock Bar comes alive
in striking blue and in-
digo glasswork, inspired
from Shah Jahan’s pea-
cock throne that once
featured the Kohinoor
diamond. Dum Pukht
Begum’s—an ode to the
princesses of Hyder-
abad—preens in pristine
whites and classy chande-
liers, while the Golconda
Room comprises soft
sandy and brown shades,
and is reminiscent of the
natural rocks found in the
Deccan region, and offers
glorious views.
