T

HE BEGINNING Established under the
umbrella of CHAI – Chandigarh Holistic
Agriculture Initiative in 2015, this
organic market aims to provide a
platform for organic farmers and
consumers by eliminating middlemen.
“We are looking to create a healthy
community where farmers get the
respect they truly deserve. We want the
consumers to be able to reconnect with
the source of their food and soul of the
farmer in the process,” says Rishi
Miranshah, member of the market’s
organising committee.

BUY FROM HERE The place invites farm-
ers from across the region including
Chandigarh, Haryana, Punjab and Hi-
machal Pradesh to sell their produce.
“More than 25 farmers come every week
and the number is gradually increasing.
From fresh fruits, vegetables and juices
to spices, jaggery and seasonal delicacies
like makki ki roti, it has become a one-

stop shop for those looking for pesti-
cide-free stuff in their kitchens,” adds
Seema Jolly, also a committee member.

ENCOURAGING FARMERS The market’s
organising committee regularly takes
patrons for tours to different organic
farms in the region and introduces them
to the techniques of pesticide-free culti-
vation and natural farming. It is now en-
couraging farmers to hold such markets
at other places too. “It would be great for
them as well as the customers. Given the
growing popularity of organic food, it is
a win-win situation for both,” adds
Miranshah.
