In theGospel according to the Hebrews which was written in the
Chaldaic and Syriac language but with Hebrew letters, and is used
up to the present day by the Nazarenes, I mean thataccordingtothe

a. See, the mother of the Lord and his brothers said him: John the

from the Nazarenes. Fragment is problematic because it is diffi-
cult to conclude whether it was the first or the second quotation to
which the titles were originally attributed. Since both passages are sus-
pected of being derived from a gospel that was not attributed to the
Nazarenes, they cannot be used as a starting point for the reconstruction
