Acknowledgments
T
he editors would like to thank all those who helped to make the Irenaeus confer-
ence—at the School of Divinity at the University of Edinburgh in August 2009—on
which this volume was based such an enjoyable and stimulating occasion. This includes
all those who attended, as well as our colleagues at the Centre for the Study of Chris-
tian Origins, and particularly Professor Larry Hurtado. Heartfelt thanks are also due to
Kirsty Murray, Mrs. Murray, Alex Peden, and Karl Shuve, and also to Scott Manor and
the other students who looked after the bar, as well as to all the relevant University of
Edinburgh staff.
Regarding the volume itself, we would like to thank all those at Fortress Press who
have worked on this volume, particularly Neil Elliott and Josh Messner. We would also
like to thank the Atelier Saint André for their permission to use the icon on the cover.
As usual, our debts to Paul Parvis are legion.
