All species of hare are mainly grass eaters, but they also consume
herbaceous plants, especially in the most arid areas. They are mainly
night active and solitary, but at favoured or productive feeding sites
several may be seen together. Unlike rabbits, hares do not burrow but
lie up in bush or grass cover, the weight of their body creating a ‘form’.
In the region all three species may breed throughout the year, but in
some areas breeding may be seasonal and females may have multiple
litters of 1–4 pups each.
