ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

It is not possible to acknowledge everyone who has assisted us over
the years, but a few stand out. Christian Gross was extremely helpful
during our earlier Arabian involvement. The founder of the Arabian
Leopard Trust, Marijcke Jongbloed, was our first ‘pathway’ into the
Arabian Peninsula. Moaz Sawaf served well as field assistant and
translater. Koen de Smet (ANB, Belgium), Klaus Rudloff (Berlin Zoo,
East), Galen Rathbun, Marijcke Jongbloed, Andre Mader, John Newby,
Bill Houston, Luke Hunter (Wildlife Conservation Society, NY) and
Farid Belbachir (Universite de Bejaia, Algeria) are thanked for helping
to fill our photographic gaps. At New Holland, James Parry is thanked
for embracing the idea, which was seen through its various stages
by Krystyna Mayer and Simon Papps. The authorities and rulers in a
number of countries allowed us to work over the years in the regions
under their control. Many people offered help, advice and hospitality
over the years that we have been active in research and survey work in
the area covered by this guidebook.
