GESS

A WORD FROM THE SCHOOL
GESS is a not-for-profit international
school with a distinctly European
character and over 45 years of
education experience. The school
caters to students from 18 months
to 18 years and currently has over
1,500 students of 60 different
nationalities. There are two different
curriculum options in the school: the
IB programme delivered in English and
the German curriculum; there are also
many unique mother tongue language
programmes, including the Language
Enrichment Programme, Dutch Mother
Tongue Programme and Danish Mother
Tongue Programme. The school has a
new purpose-built campus on Dairy
Farm Lane.
WHAT’S NEW?
GESS is the first school outside
of Europe to have been officially
accepted into the Telekom Foundation’s
Junior Engineer Academy network.
The Academy will be set up in 2018/19,
marking the introduction of an elective
for Grade 8 and 9 students who want
to explore engineering and have the
opportunity to be mentored by industry
professionals.

A teacher’s perspective
Name: Clare Kiersey
Role: Middle School te acher

I am British and have been in Singapore and teaching
at GESS for four years. My children Finn (10) and Niamh (8)
also attend the Primary School, which we’re very happy with.
My children have been able to keep their German language
skills, while having access to the Primary Years Programme
and IB curriculum.
I love teaching because you never know what each day
will bring. Every grade is different; you might teach the
same topic, but students respond differently. The great
thing about English is that as long as students can justify
their answers from the text, they are unlikely to be wrong.
Our job is to encourage independent thought and develop
critical thinkers in a world of mass media and bias.
