A principal’s perspective
Name: Graham Silverthorne
Role: He ad of UWCSEA East Campus

I have known of UWCSEA for many years and it’s a great
honour to become part of it. The UWC Mission is a summary
of all the things I’ve come to believe over many years as a
teacher, written into a very simple and powerful statement.
I’ve learnt that this statement has an individual meaning for
everyone at UWCSEA.
I was Head of History before the end of my first full year
of teaching and a Vice Principal within seven years. I love the
learning, discussions, philosophy and human contact. I hope
that 18 years of leadership in three schools has equipped me
to make a significant contribution to the East Campus.
I’ve not worked in a place before where so many people are
on board because they believe in the goals of the organisation.
It really is a tremendous experience!

A WORD FROM THE SCHOOL
Students on both campuses
of UWCSEA are part of a vibrant
international community. The K-12
holistic learning programme weaves
academics, activities, personal and
social education, outdoor education
and service into a world-class
education. While the campuses
are large, the experienced, caring
staff means that all students are
supported in a caring environment.

WHAT’S NEW?
English as an Additional Language
(EAL): students accepted from
Infant School at both campuses,
with a formal programme starting in
Grade 1 at Dover and Grade 6 at East.

Home Language/Mother Tongue:
available from Grade 2 at Dover
and K1 at East, leading to wider
options in the High School,
including a bilingual IB Diploma.
