256 CITY GUIDE 2018

LET’S EAT

Get Cooking

Whether you’re trying to eat
healthier or improve your kitchen
skills, attending cooking classes
is a great way to start. While
there are plenty of cooking
schools across the island, one
of our go-to’s is Expat Kitchen.
Read on to fi nd out why!

Started 11 years ago by Australian expat Annette
Lang, the popular cooking school is as busy as
ever, teaching both Western and Asian cuisines
to kids, teens and adults. With a wide variety
of cooking courses each week for beginners
and seasoned cooks alike, Expat Kitchen will
make you (or your helper!) a kitchen champ
in no time.
Expat Kitchen is best known for its signature
four-week helper courses (Basic, Intermediate
and Baking). By the end of the basic course, your
helper will be able to operate kitchen equipment,
cook a variety of healthy breakfasts, understand
specific dietary needs and prepare dishes from
different cuisines.
Another top pick for helpers and avid food
lovers alike are the three-hour themed focus
classes, ranging from high-protein salads and
paleo-friendly recipes to Persian dishes. New to
the table this year is the Tastes of Asia course,
which features Thai and Vietnamese cuisine,
along with a Peranakan course that teaches you
how to create classic dishes like beef rendang
and laksa, as well as a series of evening classes
where you’ll learn three quick recipes that make
for great entertaining or weeknight meals for
the family.
