Expat Living City Guide – June 2018

Neighbourhood: Lorong Ah Soo
I’ve been living in an HDB in Lorong
Ah Soo for the past 17 years; it’s located
between Kovan and Serangoon.

Reasons for living here: Because it’s near Paya
Lebar Methodist Girls’ School where I studied
for 10 years! I love the neighbourhood as it’s
always peaceful and quiet.

Public transport: There are only three buses
along the street – talk about morning commuting
madness! However, we’re just a 15-minute walk
to Kovan MRT station and three bus stops away
from Serangoon MRT.

Best green space: Maplewood Park, a small
neighbourhood park with a running track,
exercise station and field.

Local amenities: There are quite a few hawker
centres, hairdressers and doctors in the area. I
love that there many provision stores for picking
up daily necessities without going to a mall; one
of them even operates 24 hours. There is also a
handy DBS ATM nearby.

Local recommendations: Ciel Patisserie – I’m
a huge fan of its strawberry shortcake as well as
the fruit and chocolate tarts. There’s also an ice-
cream shop called Lickers whose honeycomb
ice cream is yummy! Lorong Ah Soo Market
and Kovan Market are great for local fare such
as laksa, prawn noodles and nasi lemak. Nex
is also just a short ride away for more dining,
shopping and entertainment options.
