#1 New Name
The biggest change for
Emperor’s Attic has been its re-
naming and branding. Formerly
known as FairPrice Antique, the
store’s owner Chantal Travers
decided that, after 17 years in
operation, there was clearly still
some confusion as to whether it
was linked to NTUC, or indeed
a dusty old antique shop. “When
I took over the business in
2016, it was never my intention
to change the name, but it
became apparent there was still
uncertainty around the brand.”
A competition to rename
the store concluded in March

It’s been an eventful year for Emperor’s Attic –
formerly FairPrice Antique. Here are three
of its key moments.

All Change

this year when Chantal picked
winning entry Emperor’s Attic,
feeling it embodied exactly what
the company is today. “The first
word speaks to our northern
Chinese heritage, and ‘attic’ gives
it a sense of grounding, with an
implication of affordability and
hinting at a place to find unique
and hidden treasure.”

#2 Mattress
Matters
Chantal also founded in-store
sister company Willow Mattress
at the start of this year. These
certified 100 percent natural latex
mattresses are anti-microbial,

anti-dust mite and anti-mould,
providing a healthy sleep surface for
you and your family. There’s a Willow
mattress to try out in Emperor’s Attic,
to trial, or you can buy online and
take advantage of the 100-night sleep
trial. If you don’t like it after that, you
get your money back.

#3 Refreshed
Events
The store’s quarterly “nice to have”
pop-up evening events have been
refreshed, and now operate under
the name Bazaar, running as a series
of themed mini bazaars within
the shop.
