The value of open-plan offices continues
to be a controversial topic. A recent
study from the University of Arizona’s
Institute on Place and Wellbeing found
that employees in open-plan offices were
less stressed and more physically active,
possibly because they had to move
around for private calls and meetings.
On the other hand, a 2018 Harvard
Business School study of two companies
that shifted to open-plan offices found
employees interacted less, relying
heavily on email communication to
avoid disturbing others, which led to
reduced collective intelligence.
