A leader with a
clear vision
to help people see better
Raj Narayanan, Regional President for Alcon in Asia, shares why he
thinks clear leadership, collaboration and being passionate about
what you do are important.
A
s a senior executive in one of the leading
eye care companies in the world, Raj
Narayanan is relentless in his pursuit of
the company’s mission. “While significant
advances have been made in the field of
ophthalmology and ophthalmic surgery in the past
decade, I think there is a lot more that needs to be
done,” he says.
“On the one hand, ophthalmic interventions
have touched the lives of millions of people each
year. Yet there are about 300 million people,
whose sight, indeed lives, could be improved with
better care and treatment. Despite great
advances in surgical procedures, cataracts
remain the number one cause of blindness
around the world. And it’s within our power to
fix this.”
How can one company address this?
Alcon has a simple call to action that drives its
short- as well as longer-term decisions. That mission
is, simply, to help people see better. “Working on
how we deliver this is what my team and I do every
day,” Raj says. “By working in close partnership with
key healthcare leaders around the region that share
a similar vision, such as the Aier group, we are
striving to bring effective treatments to the many
patients who need our help.”
The Power of Education
One of the areas Alcon focuses on is medical
education. The company believes that helping
clinicians do their job more effectively and
efficiently is the best way to achieve better patient
outcomes. Its educational offering includes wet labs
