W

hat time would
you like to take
your shower at
Ms Armstrong?”
is a question
I never thought
I’d be asked,
particularly at 40,000 feet in the air, but it’s
one I found myself deliberating over during
the most luxurious first class flight imaginable
with Etihad recently. I also didn’t anticipate;
“Which Maserati would you like to drive
around Italy today?” but then this month
certainly had lots of surprises, not to mention
its fair share of the finer things in life (but
more of that in the December issue).
It got me thinking about the word luxury and
what it actually means. Is it “in each detail” as
Hubert de Givenchy once said? Are we to follow
Sheryl Sandberg’s train of thought and believe that
“it is the ultimate luxury to combine passion and
contribution”? Or perhaps the Oracle of Omaha,
Warren Buffett, got it right when he professed,
“I’m happy when I can spend every day doing
the things that I like to do. That’s my luxury.”
Whether it’s time spent with family and friends,
the comfort and security provided by money in the
bank, or just something big, shiny and super-flash
parked in the driveway, luxury means many different
things to many different people, which is why we
created this, The Luxury Issue.

From owning your own piece of paradise
(page 108) to investing in your favourite soccer
club (page 138), from circumnavigating the globe
on The  World (page 152) to simply taking a CEO
‘gap  year’ (page 36), which some might argue is
the ultimate extravagance, we’ve taken things to
the next luxe level this month.
Of course, we still have all the elements you
would expect from The CEO Magazine. In-depth
interviews with some of the world’s top leaders,
informative articles from innovation to investment,
plus your usual dose of inspiration... A little
something for everyone, I’d like to think.
So, sit back, relax (luxuriate even, if you’re that
way inclined) and enjoy this special issue. I’ll see
you next month.
