A study from University College London and Audible has
found that audiobooks have a greater emotional impact on
listeners than film or TV does on viewers. The investigation
examined participants watching a particular scene – for
example, Silas whipping himself in The Da Vinci Code, the
Facehugger attack in Alien and when Clarice meets
Hannibal Lecter for the first time in Silence of the Lambs –
and also listening to the corresponding narration.
Physiological and biological data (heart rate, body warmth)
determined that audiobooks were more engaging, despite
assumptions to the contrary.
