Add useful new features to YouTube

ouTube may be atechnical marvel, but it’s riddled with

niggles andfoibles.Weoftencover add-ons that

improvecontrols orrectify minor issues, but Enhancer

for YouTube is a must-haveall-in-onetoolkit that should

solve most ofyour playback

complaints. Install theextension in

your chosen browser, then headto

youtube.comand click any video.

Enhancer places atoolbaratthe bottom ofYouTube

pagescontaining eight options:^1 ‘Removeads’, ‘Cinema

mode’, ‘Resize player’, ‘Detach player’ (an unpinnable

picture-in-picture mode), ‘Boostvolume’, ‘Loop video’, Speed

(controlled viayour mouse wheel) and Options.

Toadd moretools, gotoOptions,Toolbar.The Buttons

section^1 hasextra speedcontrols,^2 custom scripts^3

and filters.^4 Tick a boxtoadd it, or unticktoremove

anyyou don’t need. Newfeatures are added instantly.You

can also customise thetoolbar’s colour and transparency.^5

Scroll down the Options screento‘Video player’.^1

Here,you can setyour default playback speed,^2

volume level^3 and screen sizefor every video.Atthe

bottom of this section,you can choose the default video

quality, with backup options.

There are 18 additional themes, beyond the default

setting,^1 each of which adds a black background with

coloured accents.^2 Tick the boxtosee the effect

instantly. Ifyou know CSS,you can select ‘Custom theme’^3

and pastethe CSScode in thetext box.^4

Enhancerfor YouTube’skeyboard shortcuts^1 gofar

beyond pressing the spacebartoplay and pause. Useful

shortcuts include ‘C’to switch on subtitles, ‘M’tomute

videos, and arrow keys to controlvolume and playback
