luxury properties) for a number of
reasons: 1. its characteristic trulli
properties, 2. its convenient location
between Bari and Brindisi airports,
and 3. not only is it near the sea, it
also has some very attractive inland
towns. The Lower Salento area is still
up-and-coming, while the Gargano
follows behind.”
Maureen McLeod of Elite
Puglia adds, “The most expensive
properties are ones with sea views
or elevated panoramic views. These
are the most sought after. The Itria
Valley and the highly attractive
town of Ostuni are very popular.
The least expensive areas of Salento
are towards Latiano where the land
is flat and uninteresting. Value-for-
money is of course relative, and not
confined to any particular area.”

MAXIMISING RENTALS
As a region with a huge scope for
holiday-making, it comes as no
surprise that Puglia offers very good
holiday rental prospects. As stated
earlier, summers are very long down
here, and the rentals season lasts from
around May to October. Puglia offers
not only all the delights of the seaside,
but also all the charm of historic towns
stuffed with handsome buildings and
superb restaurants. Thus there are
many areas in which a home would
potentially attract a very good rental
clientele. Key areas would of course

include the coast, any attractive
stretches of countryside (with the
Itria Valley area probably at the top
of the list), and any of the towns most
appealing to tourists – such as Ostuni,
Alberobello, Lecce, Otranto, Taranto,
Polignano a Mare, Cisternino, etc.
Property type is of course another
factor to consider. On the coast
you’re most likely to be looking
at a modern-built apartment (and
note that two bedrooms is usually
the most rentable size for these),
but inland and in towns you have
various more traditional property
