JUDGING PROCESS

he MEP Middle East awards are
judged through a blind ballot cast
by a panel of judges selected from
the Middle East’s mechanical, electri-
cal, and plumbing (MEP) community.

The esteemed judges for the MEP Middle
East Awards 2018 included Eng. Anwaar Al
Shimmari, Director of design department
and Chief Innovation Officer, Ministr y of
Infrastructure Development; M. Vasanth

Kumar, ex-CEO and co-founder of Arabian
MEP/Al Malki Group; Sougata Nandi, founder,
3e Advisor y; Sarfraz H Dairkee, secretar y,
Board of Emirates Green Building Council
(EGBC), Hassan Younes, director, Griffin
Consultants; and Tharun Thomas, energy
efficiency business manager, Smart4power.
The judges scored each entr y through
an online voting system and their decisions
weighed on the criteria listed for each of the
categor y. The winner and highly commended
are decided based on an average of the judges’
marks. These collective judgment draw on the
judges’ combined experience and knowledge
of the industr y. Now that the judges have
already cast their vote, it’s time to wait until
7 November to know the results!
The judges were quite impressed with
the quality of some of the nominations sent
in this year. Nandi says: “There have been
some improvements in the quality in some
of the submissions. A lot of people are par-
ticipating, which is exciting.” Dairkee adds
to this by saying that “compared to last year,
the submissions were better both in quality
and quantity”.
On the judging process Nandi remarked
that it was “strenuous and hectic” as there
was a lot of material to go through. He says,
however, “Given the quality of some of the
submissions, it was ver y exciting as well.”
Dairkee adds: “There were few entries
that were outstanding. Most of them were
close calls.”
The 12th annual MEP Middle East Awards
will take place at the JW Marriott Marquis,
Dubai Ballroom, on 7 November 2018.
More than 400 decision-makers will gather
at the event to celebrate the achievements of
MEP professionals from across the Middle
East. Be sure to be there!
