are this year beamed live
from Rotterdam, although
the venue may be the only
European thing about them.
The presenter is American
singer Bebe Rexha and the
nominees are the likes of
Adele, Justin Bieber, Beyoncé,
Coldplay, Kanye, Rihanna and
Radiohead. Among the per-
formers on the night are Bruno
Mars, Lady Gaga and Shawn
Mendes.

TUESDAY NOVEMBER 8
Animal Kingdom (SoHo, Sky 010,
8.30pm). The Australian movie
about a twisted matriarch
and her criminal offspring is
turned into a US TV series: it
says a lot about Jackie Weaver’s
performance as Janine “Smurf”
Cody that her American

counterpart is the illustri-
ous Ellen Barkin. Her “boys”
include Scott Speedman as the
adopted Baz and young British
actor Finn Cole (Peaky Blinders)
as Janine’s grandson “J”, who
turns up after his mother dies
of a drug overdose. Reviews
were a bit so-so, based on early
episodes (“trying so furiously
to be gritty and important that
it ends up more wearisome
than entertaining”, said the
Hollywood Reporter), but the
series has been renewed for a
second season.

The Restorers (History, Sky 073,
8.30pm). A fascinating series
based on the 2003 documen-
tary film about the restoration
of vintage war planes in the
US. The recovery of these

warbirds is also the recovery of
a slice of aviation history – the
series includes a WWII enemy
aircraft buried 70 years ago in
Indiana, and the recovery of a
B-52 Firebomber that crashed
in 1969 in Alaska. It’s not all
serious; one episode features
aviation vacation destinations.

Grey’s Anatomy (TVNZ 2,
9.30pm). The series that keeps
on keeping on: here’s the
season 12 finale and in the
time-honoured tradition,
there’s a match, a hatch and
a dispatch. It’s Owen and
Amelia’s wedding day; April’s
baby makes a hurried entrance
into the world; and Callie
Torres leaves for New York.

Season 13 of Grey’s, starring
Kiwi actor Martin Henderson,
is already under way and has
been streaming on TVNZ
OnDemand.

WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 9
1 News Special: America Decides
and Newshub Special: US Elec-
tion (TVNZ 1 and TV3, 4.25 and
5.00pm). Will it be the Trump
Apocalypse or the Hillary
“Vagenda”? Such have been
the extremes of rhetoric in
this most bizarre campaign
to become the 45th POTUS.
Soon, praise your chosen
deity, we’ll be able to put all
this madness behind us. On
TVNZ 1, Hilary Barry hosts a
studio panel, with crosses to
Jack Tame and Corin Dann in
New York. On TV3, Samantha
Hayes and Tom McRae are in
the studio and they will cross
to Mike McRoberts, Patrick

Finally, some good news.
Using the Paris climate change
conference as a jumping-of
point, Australian correspond-
ent Eric Campbell looks at
some of the positive moves
towards allaying global warm-
ing in How to Save the World
(Choice TV, Thursday, 9.30pm).
He begins in Costa Rica,

which is fast becoming a car-
bon-neutral poster child. The
country has pledged to stop
using fossil fuels altogether in
six years, and has invested in
a variety of renewable energy,
including solar, hydro and
wind. Eco tourism is now a
huge source of foreign money.
