Using “some” and “any”

Remember!
According to the
basic rule, some
is used in
affirmative
sentences, while
any is used in
negative
statements and
questions:
● I need some
rest.
● I don’t have
any time.
● Do you have
any children?

Some is also
used in
questions if one
expects the
answer to be
affirmative or
when making a
request:


  • Can you lend
    me some
    money?


However, any is
also used in
affirmative
sentences if
these have a
limiting or
negative
meaning:
● We spent
hardly any
money.
