The boy
Done
good...
How Peter Done created a global business but
stayed true to Salford

Business

It’s hard to miss Peter Done’s
business, Peninsula, when you
travel into the city centre.
Sitting on the edge of the Green
Quarter opposite Victoria Station,
Peninsula has become one of the
city’s biggest employers.
Since 1983, it has been
providing professional services to
SMEs growing its base from
Manchester to global offices
including Australia.
Its service replaces the need to
maintain a full-time HR
department or pay for expensive
legal advice.
At the helm is a true
entreprenuer, Peter Done.
Having built a thriving betting
shop business with brother Fred,
Peter changed tack and took on
employment consultancy
Peninsula eventually turning the
company’s fortunes around.
At 71 he is still very much
involved in the business with
plans to expand further and grow
its current services - there are 11
operating companies within the
group.
Like many successful
businessmen - and women -
there’s a real passion for the
company and what he’s achieved
with it over the last 30 years.
And there’s no slowing down
either as he tells us , “it’s the best
thing I’ve ever done in my life and
we’ve had a fantastic ride here.”

infrAsTrucTure lunch
High on Andy Burnham’s agenda, air
quality in the region is at crisis levels as
commuters battle clogged roads, an
unreliable rail system and the highest
rates of asthma A&E submissions in the
country. During this discussion a panel
of experts, including Nicola Kane and
Cllr James Lewis will explore the role
transport plays on the health of our
population, what we can do to address
the challenges we face and what
emissions-based charging might look
like in the future. HS2 and Northern
Powerhouse Rail are billed as the
answer to many of the Northern
transport and infrastructure issues, but
what is actually being planned and
when we will start to see the benefits?
How will Greater Manchester balance
an ever increasing demand for travel
with an ambition to be the first zero
carbon region? After lunch, Barry
White, CEO of Transport for the North,
will share his insight into the long term
plans for Manchester and the North.

cAn MAnchesTer end rough
sleeping By 2020?
Mayor Andy Burnham included the
ambitious target to end rough sleeping
in Greater Manchester by 2020. Whilst
no one disagrees with the sentiment,
there is a concern over whether it’s
possible and a level of confusion over
how best the business community can
support the initiative. Pro-manchester
has invited The Manchester
Homelessness Partnership, GMCA and
a local homelessness charity to offer
their perspective on rough sleeping,
the wider issues around homelessness
and whether the 2020 target is feasible.
They will share the facts and figures,
explain how services can be accessed
and give advice on how organisations
can help. Following the launch of the
#BedForEveryNight campaign across
the region, the speakers will provide an
update on the scheme.
●●Time: 8am - 9.30am
●●Location: Brewin Dolphin, 1 The
