You’re from the South Side. That’s what’s up.
So, you’re linking up—your label is called
BREAD GANG. And you just signed with
CMG (Cocaine Muzic Group), which is Yo
Gotti’s label, correct?

MB Yea

Since you’ve been linking up with Gotti—on
the business tip—what are some of the
things you’ve learned from Gotti, since he’s
been in the game for a minute, and known
on a more national level? I know you said
something about “not following the bag,
but following the dream”. Can you elaborate
on that a little bit?
Yea, like sometimes you just can’t go after
the money all the time. Like sometimes the
opportunity is bigger than the bag. I mean,
the opportunity might put you on a bigger
platform. Then the money...it’s gonna come
itself. So you just can’t be after that because
it might not make it to the big opportunity.

Got you. So let me ask you this also. You
being from Memphis, and Memphis is a city
that’s rich with musical history. How do you
think your brand—because you de#nitely
motivate people—how do you think your
brand stands apart from some of the other
well-known rappers from Memphis? I mean,
you can go all the way back to ‘Ball & G
[Eightball & MJG], Three 6, [Project] Pat ,
Gotti, Dolph...like a lot of these rappers that
are putting Memphis on the map. How does
your brand di"er from those, and what do
you want people to know about your brand
of music?

I’m just a di"erent type of rapper. Well, I
don’t label myself as a rapper anyway. I’m an
artist. I’m just a di"erent type of individual
anyway. My music just motivates people like
you said—like we were talking about—gets
you through the day. Most people are just
rapping about jewelry, cars, clothes, money
and all that. I’m rapping about day-to-day
facts. So that’s what—o" the top—sepa-
rates me from them. And then my demean-
or...anyway... when you meet me, I’m not
the person you might think I am.

Yea, you give the impression—like I said, I
saw some of your other interviews—you
give the impression of a person who, if
everybody else were playing checkers, you’d
be playing chess. What personality trait do
you possess that has played the biggest
factor in your success so far?
The humbleness. Like everybody—a lot of
people—think I’m cocky. But I ain’t even on
that. I’m like the humble kid, just cool and
just chill.

Do you think that now it’s time for Memphis
artists to be put more on the map on more
of a national level? I mean lately, you had
Gotti who did the deal with Roc Nation. And
there’s always been talent coming out of the
City [Memphis]. Is it now time for Memphis
to really show what they’re made of?

I think—we’re opening doors. I think with
me and Blac Youngsta coming out the City
like that, it’s just got all eyes on Memphis
right now. So it’s a lot of people paying
attention to us right now. I’m the last one, so
far, to come out the City. I’m pretty sure it’s
more to come, but as of right now, I’m the
last to come out the City and I hope I can
just open up all those doors...more doors.

I mean, just the people around
me—they kept me motivated.
And I got like 6 kids—I’m 25—they
motivated me.

MB

Right. You’ve got a lot of mouths
to feed.

I got a lot of responsibilities, so I
couldn’t give up.

MB

Now, with you being the main
artist, you’re up front. But who are
some of the people behind the
scenes—maybe producers,
engineers, DJs?
I’m working with di"erent pro-
ducers, but I got this artist named
--he’s coming soon.

When people know that Money-
Bagg Yo is coming to town—let’s
say that you see that $yer that
says “MONEYBAGG YO!”—what is
it about that concert that people
will say, ‘Man, I gotta get to that
show!!!’?
‘Cause I know it’s about to be
FEDERAL. I know he’s going to be
crazy! ‘Cause I give them that real
energy. They feed o" my energy.
It’s positive. And it’s just turnt!
They need that in they life. I just
give them that energy they need.
Or they could have been going
through a terrible day. Like, the
whole day—before that concert—
it could have been terrible for
them. But once they get on notice,
and know that I’m #xin’ to per-
form—‘Oh, MoneyBagg comin’ to
the City?...Ok man, gotta go...
maybe my spirit...maybe I get
lifted up.’ You know what I’m sayin’?

Now, everybody that’s made it so
far, they always have a situation
where they feel like giving up
when something is hard. What—in
particular with you—were you
going through anything, and you
said, ‘You know what...I gotta keep
it going, regardless of this tough
situation that I’m going through.’?
What kept you going through the
struggle even when it was tough
and you felt like giving up?
