Brett Kavanaugh
Last month, Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh found
himself in trouble. Nominated in July by Donald
Trump to become the new Associate Justice of
the Supreme Court of the United States, his con-
irmation process was in its inal stage when a
series of allegations of sexual misconduct broke
out. Christine Blasey Ford, a psychology profes-
sor at Palo Alto University, accused Kavanaugh of
sexually assaulting her in the 1980s, when they
were both teenagers. A second accuser, Deborah
Ramirez, came forward a few days later. Ka-
vanaugh denied the accusations, which he called
“smears” in a live interview for Fox News, and
declined to withdraw his nomination. Donald
Trump, as well as several senior Senate Republi-
cans, publicly backed Kavanaugh when the alle-
gations surfaced.
