“I wonder how many of us can recall our own Dmascus
experience? That moment, frozen in time, when we became, as
Wainwright did, a fellwalker, or a climber, or a mountaineer?”

The popular podcast Folk on Foot will
return for its third series in July 2019.
Folk on Foot is the brainchild of
Matthew Bannister, one of the UK’s
leading broadcasters and a former
Controller of Radio 1 and Director of
BBC Radio.
Guests include more of the UK’s
most acclaimed folk artists – the
Unthanks, Martin Simpson, John
Smith, Lisa Knapp and Duncan
Chisholm – walking, talking and
singing in the landscapes that
inspired their music. The season
kicks off on July 5 with a special
episode inspired by The Lost Words,
the best-selling book by artist Jackie
Morris and writer Robert
Macfarlane.
The podcast has already captured
the imagination of a large number of
folk music fans as well as walkers and
nature-lovers. The first series raced
straight to the top of the iTunes
music podcast chart on its launch day
back in 2018 and its audience has
been growing ever since.
Folk on Foot is available to
download from via iTunes and
podcast apps. folkonfoot.com

Many of the old milestones in the UK date back to the 18th Century turnpike era, when travellers
were charged tolls at turnpikes in order to travel on sections of road. Milestones and other
waymarkers can still be found across the country, including notable examples in Yorkshire and the
Peak District. Find out more from the Milestone Society: http://www.milestonesociety.co.uk.
