THE OPEN WATER INITITIATIVE
The Open will become one of the first major global
sporting events to remove single-use plastic water
bottles in a move supported by the UN. The Open Water
initiative has been developed to deliver a pioneering new
approach to supplying drinking water at a major event
by using water refilling stations and reusable stainless
steel bottles to deliver pure fresh water directly to fans,
players, staff and officials at The Open.
More than 5,000 special edition reusable stainless
steel water bottles will be given to fans free of charge
at The Open. Fans are also welcome to bring their own
refillable water bottles to use at the Championship.
Golfers playing in The Open will also be given a
personalised Players’ Edition water bottle with their name
laser-engraved on it, with a limited number to be made
available for sale. Martin Slumbers, Chief Executive of
The R&A, said, “The Open has a close relationship with
nature and the coastal system of the world’s finest links
courses and it is important that we safeguard them for
future generations.

TIGER WOODS MASTERS TROPHY
ARRIVES BY SPECIAL DELIVERY
Tiger Woods was back at his South Florida home
only to find that the hardware for his Masters
victory in April had arrived. “Came home to
another package in the mail,” he noted on social
media. “I think I can find a spot on the shelf for
this one. Thanks everyone for your support, and
thank you to my friends at @TheMasters.”
The 15-time major winner ended a 10-year
winless drought in majors with his victory
at Augusta National, where he won the fifth
green jacket of his career and first since 2005.
In addition, Woods received his fifth Masters
trophy, a sterling silver replica of the Augusta
National clubhouse.
Following a tie for 21st at the U.S. Open last
month, he said he planned to “enjoy some family
time” and that he was “going to take a little bit of
time off.” The next start for Woods is at the Open
Championship at Portrush, where he’ll be trying
to capture his fourth career claret jug and first
since 2006.
