Rory’s key Set-up
promotes co-ordination

PITCHING

erhaps the trickiest thing about
part-shots is making a swing in
which both arms and body
make a connected, co-
ordinated contribution. Rory, though, is
one of the most co-ordinated pitchers in
golf, and we can trace his ability back to
how he addresses the ball. Your set-up
can either connect or disconnect your
action; Rory makes sure it’s the former,
and you can, too.

P

In the long game there
is some separation
between upper and
lower body, but not
with wedges. I am not
as violent into my left
side, and there is less
wrist movement. I
want my action to feel
calm, almost serene,
with my upper and
lower body connected
and everything
working in sync.

RORY

SAYS

RORY’S HI-TOE
WEDGES
Adrian says: “Rory has used these
wedges for two years, but the
conditions and weather at
Portrush will dictate if he makes
any changes. He usually goes
through a lob wedge a month. He
experimented with a 64° Hi-Toe for
The Masters and he might look at
less bounce depending on the
conditions, but it’s why the tour
van is on site. When he started
using Hi-Toe he could hit shots
lower with more spin, feeling the
results on miss-hits, especially
from 30-40 yards, gave him a
bigger margin for error. His shafts
are also a little softer than his irons;
it gives him the same feel as he
doesn’t often hit flat-out wedges.”
