commenced; I opted for the East

German Air Force version.

For upper surfaces I used Vallejo

Air 71.016 US Dark Green and

71.096 Panzer Olive. Undersides

were Vallejo Model Air 70.972

Light Green Blue. All main colours

were masked using Blu-Tack for

demarcations and pre-shaded

using Vallejo Air 71.251 NATO Black.

Wing tips, tail tips, nose, and tail

fairing were masked and painted

with pre-shaded Vallejo Model

Colour 70.953 Flat Yellow. Finally, I

opted to discard the nose anti-

dazzle panel decal and masked

and painted it with black instead.

A sealing coat of Klear was

followed by decal application.

At first sight the decals looked

rather thick, but with the aid of

Micro-Sol they conformed very

nicely to surface details, and

were totally opaque. I used a MIG

dark wash, which highlighted

the engraved panel lines nicely.

Tamiya weathering powders

were applied to various areas

of the underside to complete

the light weathering process.

FINAL ASSEMBLY

The windscreen and canopies (the

front with its photo-etch stay)

were added without incident, as

were the landing gear, doors, and

airbrakes. The separate wing tip

navigation lights were painted with

Tamiya X-27 Clear Red and X-25

Clear Green. Finally, the finishing

touches were the landing light

lens under the port wing, the pitot

tubes, and the antenna. All these

items were secured using PVA.

CONCLUSION

I entered the finished model in the

IPMS Wakefield and District Show

at Huddersfield, and won first prize

in the 1/72 “out-of-box” class. I

believe this says a lot about the

inherently high quality of the kit. My

few niggles are far outweighed by

the sheer quality and level of detail

packed into such a small package.

I would recommend it without

hesitation to anyone with a couple

of models already under their belt.

releases in 1/72 from AMK. My thanks
