Scale aviation modeller international

(Barré) #1
was so good that I decided that
I could paint the model as a
number of sub-assemblies.

PAINTING AND DECALS
Despite the huge size of this model
painting was not a real problem.
The grey primer coat was followed
by several white coats using
Model Master enamel paint. Next
time I’ll remember to use a white

primer instead, which would have
made this stage a lot easier.
Masking the long line running
on the fuselage was a slow job,
as you have to ensure that it
is a perfectly straight line. I
painted the underside Model
Master FS 36375 Grey. The wings
and horizontal tailplanes were
painted in the same colour. I
then masked off and painted
the aluminium leading edges.

Revell suggests painting the
landing gear components white,
but after looking at some reference
pictures I decided that these were
more likely to be a light grey colour.
The most boring part of the build
was cutting 24 round masks to
protect the wheels while painting
the tires. Unfortunately, the tyres
and hubs are not so crispy moulded,
which would have made it quite
difficult to brush paint the tyres.
