ATR Wins Silver
The  rst US operator of ATR’s -600 series
will be Silver Airways, which is to acquire 20
of the turboprops.
Under the terms of the order, announced
on January 22, the Floridian carrier will
receive 16 ATR 42-600s and four of the
larger ATR 72-600s, all of which will
be leased from Nordic Aviation Capital
(NAC). This consists of 15 newly ordered
examples, along with  ve from its existing
portfolio.
Handover of the  rst, a 46-seat ATR 42, is
expected this March, with deliveries due for
completion by 2020.

Cathay Pacifi c A350-1000 Plans
September this year has been pencilled
in by Cathay Paci c to launch its maiden
Airbus A350-1000 service to Washington
DC in the US. This is the  rst time the
carrier has connected Hong Kong with the
American capital, as it continues to grow

its network of non-stop routes.
It will start with four-times weekly
 ights, which will complement existing
routes to the US East Coast, serving
Boston and New York.
The airline says its new service to

Washington’s Dulles International Airport,
will become the longest  own on its
network in terms of distance at 7,085nm
(13,122km). The  rst of 20 A350-1000s
which will  y the route are due to arrive in
the spring.

Cobalt Air’s Heathrow Service
A daily service by Cobalt Air between
Larnaca, Cyprus, and Heathrow is
planned to start on March 27. It will
be the Cypriot carrier’s third route to
the British capital, after Stansted and

Gatwick.
The new service using Heathrow’s
Terminal 3 will be operated by an Airbus
A320 equipped with the airline’s new
business class cabin. This consists of

12 seats, set in a four-abreast layout and
featuring a 40in (102cm) pitch.
The carrier will also launch non-stop
links from Larnaca to Abu Dhabi on
February 25.

Azores Airlines’  rst Airbus A321neo, CS-TSF (c/n 7972), was delivered from the manufacturer’s Hamburg/Finkenwerder facility on December 15

Diamond Austria Changes Hands
Chinese company, Wanfeng Aviation
Industry has bought Austrian general
aviation manufacturer, Diamond Austria,
from its owner, Christian Dries. Wanfeng
had acquired a majority stake in Diamond

Aircraft Canada a year previously.
Diamond’s product line includes the
HK.36 Super Dimona motor glider, DA.20i
Katana trainer and the four-seat DA40. Its
twin-engined DA42 and DA62 are sold to

civil operators but are also widely used for
military special missions as the DA42MPP
and DA62MPP and the latest model, due in
service this year, is the new single-engined
