The border of the lateral corticospinal tract is no longer
detectable in this section because the dorsal half of the
lateral funiculus has very sparse reactive glia. The fi ber
tracts at this level of the spinal cord are more immature
than the three rostral levels shown in this specimen.
Thus, the overall rostral (fi rst) to caudal (last) gradient of
maturation is evident in this third trimester specimen.
