in Kampala, and since then we have been receiving support from the Government of Norway under its
overseas aid programme, which supports forestry and forestry education in Uganda. At that time we
established a Steering Committee to oversee the work of BFP and to take final responsibility for deci-
sions. The current Chairman of the Steering Committee is John Kaboggoza, Dean of the Faculty of
Forestry and Nature Conservation at Makerere University, and recently elected Chairman of the
National Forest Authority. Also on the Steering Committee are the Science Secretary of the Uganda
National Council for Science and Technology, the current Director and Assistant Director of BFP, and
myself as Founder and Adviser. The Project’s Director is currently Fred Babweteera, and the Assistant
Director, who is normally an expatriate researcher. Recent Assistant Directors have been Sean O’Hara
and Nick Newton-Fisher.
