21: THE DNP CERTIFICATION EXAMINATION ■ 475

  1. Can a 50% pass rate support the arguments of both opponents and proponents of the DNP
    certification examination?

  2. Would another layer of certification dissuade or encourage nurses from becoming APRNs?
    What is your rationale?

  3. How could you argue that DNP certification improves patient care?

  4. How would you answer the criticism that there are already enough psychometrically sound
    APRN certification examinations?

  5. What are your thoughts about the appropriateness of the DNP certification examination for
APRN specialties other than family and adult advanced nursing practice? How would you
answer the criticism that the examination is not appropriate for specialty APRNs such as
pediatric and women’s health care APRNs?
