LRASM TEST
SUCCESSFUL
THE USAF RECENTLY conducted
the successful ring of two
production-representative Long
Range Anti-Ship Missiles (LRASMs)
from a B-1B. The milestone
occurred over the sea range near
Point Mugu, California. After
launch, the missiles navigated
through all planned waypoints,
transitioned to mid-course
guidance, and ew toward a
moving maritime target using
inputs from the on-board sensors.
The missiles subsequently
identi ed the intended target and
impacted successfully.
LRASM employs advanced
technologies that reduce
dependence on intelligence,
surveillance, and reconnaissance
(ISR) platforms, network links,
and GPS navigation to detect and
destroy speci c targets within
groups of ships in contested
environments. The precision-
guided, anti-ship stand-o
missile is based on the Joint
Air-to-Surface Stand-o Missile —
Extended Range. It will achieve an
early operational capability with
the B-1B in 2018 and the US Navy
F/A-18E/F in 2019.TRITON OPERATIONS UNDER WAY

US Navy formally welcomed the
MQ-4C Triton unmanned aircraft
system (UAS) to the eet during
a ceremony that marked the start
of ight operations by the type
at Naval Base Ventura County
(NBVC) Point Mugu, California, on
May 31. The Tritons based here are own by crews from unmanned
patrol squadron VUP-19 at NAS
Jacksonville, Florida, but launch,
recovery and maintenance
operations are carried out at
Point Mugu. Those operations are
conducted by VUP-19 Det Point
Mugu, which is operating from
a newly refurbished hangar atthe air station. This building can
support four MQ-4Cs. The unit
accepted the rst of two Tritons
in November 2017 and a second
example arrived in April. The Triton
is scheduled to begin its rst
deployment to Guam later this
year once operational testing has
