(singke) #1
sharp curves are needed. Unusually
they proved almost impervious to
my usual MicroSol, so I’d suggest
something stronger if you have it.
To kill the rather shiny finish
of the decals, I used several thin
coats of a matt paint new to me –
Mr. Color GX113 UV Cut Flat from
their GX range, thinned with Mr.
Hobby Levelling Thinner, which
after three very thin coats gave
a nice not-quite-matt finish. I
left the weapons glossy as a tonal
variation and added a few pastel
chalk stains around the vents and
panel hinges to complete my model.

CONCLUSION
Kinetic’s expansion of its Mirage
range into the two-seater has
to be considered a success:
the kit is nicely moulded for
the most part, although some
of the smaller parts from the
earlier versions are getting a
bit fuzzy around the edges.
There’s nothing seriously
difficult about the build,
although out of the box,
the rather sparse tank-only
loadout makes for a rather ascetic
appearance, despite the excellent
marking choice. The lean, aggressive
look of the original is well captured,
to the extent that I almost wish
(next time!) that I’d built it in the
flying mode. Recommended.
Thanks to Kinetic for
the sample kit.

Masks were made for the
camouflage scheme from
artists’ film by enlarging the
kit painting guide and using a
stencil cutter.

Masking was pretty successful, only very minor
touching up being needed.
