T

he Me-262, one of World
War Two’s most iconic
aircraft, has long been a
favourite among the modelling
community. Kitted in various
scales by various manufacturers
over the years, the most recent
1/72 scale releases came from
Academy and Revell Germany.
Airfix’s original kit has been
soldiering on in their catalogue
since 1960, but can finally be
sent into retirement, as the
good people at Airfix have
decided to bring us a brand
new-tool Me-262 A-1a.
The Me-262 was assembled
at various production plants,
with some minor differences

between each version,
and a look in the box will
reveal what features the new
Airfix kit has to offer and which
production batch is represented.
The first CAD images of this
kit appeared about a year
ago, and ever since
its announcement,
I’ve been pretty excited
about this release.

THE KIT
In the box, we get 66 parts in
Airfix’ typical soft grey plastic,
plus one clear sprue. The outlines
and dimensions of the model
are convincing. Surface finish is
