Let’s get Ugly

D

ora Wings is a new manufacturer
who had their first models on
display at Nuremberg two versions
of the stubby Gee Bee racers which not only
include etched brass
to add detail but also
masks to reproduce that
complicated paintwork.
Far more attractive is the
P-63 Kingcobra which is
a lovely looking aircraft
but even that can be made
ugly! As Bell proved
when they added a second
cockpit for an observer on
test fights that is closer
to the tail than the front
cockpit due to the rear
position of the engine.
This manufacturer
has some big plans which
will be of interest to

those who like between the wars aircraft as
can be seen in the Nuremberg kit listing.
We will have a First Look at the
Dora Wings Gee Bee in next issue.

rk Models had an advanced
test shot of their 1/144 scale
Buran (Blizzard) Space
shuttle. Looking very similar to
the US Space Shuttle this kit will

have an open or closed payload bay
and a poseable manipulator arm.

or many years the sister companies
of Hobbyboss and Trumpeter had
an output that was truly staggering
but at Nuremberg, though they had a large
amount of new armour new aircraft kits
were thin on the ground. The only real
ground-breaking announcement was
from Hobbyboss with a poster showing
a massive 1/32 B-24J Liberator could be
expected sometime in 2018/19. Trumpeter
also had a poster of a Tupolev Tu-22
Blinder but this time in 1/72 scale. In
both cases, many would say that 1/48
would have been a better choice for both
subjects. The only new kit on display in
their booth was the DH Sea Vixen in 1/48
which is due for an April/May release.

ucked
away on
the Hornby
stand in the model
railway hall was
Airfix who had
the sprues from
their new 1/72
scale Wellington
on display as
well as a few part assembled components.
We have waited a long time for a state of the
art Wellington and the detail on this kit is
sublime especially the representation of
the geodetic structure under the fabric. The
Wellington should be available by the summer.

Also, on display was a resin concept
for the new 1/48 Scale Hawker Hunter
and to my eye, Airfix appeared to have
nailed the curves and shape of this aircraft
perfectly. They are looking for a late 2018
release though this may slip into 2019.
