Xtradecal

T

his month we have a
decal sheet for one of
my personal favourite
aircraft! The Me 210/410 was
designed to replace the Bf 110,
but was never a success in any
role. However, it was certainly a
strikingly attractive aircraft.
In model form we have very
nice kits from Eduard in 1/72
and Meng in 1/48 scale, and now
Xtradecal have produced a sheet in
both scales, with some very nice
marking options that cover the
amazingly large range camouflage
options available for the type.
The second sheet this month
is another of Xtradecal’s mini-
themes, covering the history of
Luftwaffe bomber unit KG-51
during the Second World War. This
is perfect for modellers who want
a theme, but do not want to stick to
just one type of aircraft. The sheets
covers twin-engine bombers and
fighters; single-engine fighter
and communication aircraft; and
finally, twin engine jet fighters,
so a wide selection of shapes and
sizes is linked by a common theme.

CONCLUSION
A very impressive selection of
markings for one of the most
popular modelling subjects. As
we know, anything with a swastika
sells. I do hope that they may
consider producing a larger scale
version of the KG-51 sheet.

supplying the review sample which
can be purchased from their website.

hen Revell launched
a beautiful kit of
the Embraer ERJ-
190 in 2017, it was inevitable
that it would not take long for
the aftermarket to come up
with some more interesting
markings than the Luftwaffe
scheme in the kit.
BOA have now released
two sheets for this kit, one from
Swiss airline Helvetica, with
a red tail and finlets complete
with the Swiss white cross.
But my favourite of the two is
the scheme from Alitalia Cityliner,
in a scheme that has not changed
much since my plane-spotting
days, watching Alitalia DC-9s
at Heathrow in the 1970s.
As well as the airliner
markings, these sheets also
include doors, windscreen,

stencils, and walkways. Painting
is relatively simple: fuselage
in white and wings in grey.

CONCLUSION
I am so pleased that someone has
noticed the release of the Revell
ERJ-190, as it a pretty aircraft,
and with these markings is even
more pretty. Now, BOA, can we
please have the markings used
by Air Canada? Another of my
favourite classic schemes with
the large maple leaf on the tail
Our thanks to BOA for supplying
these sheets for us to review.
