Vingtor Decals

F

rom Vingtor this month
we have another of
their sheets covering
the F-16. This time they are
covering four aircraft that
were based in the United
States for testing, as well as
in Norway from 1999 to 2012.
Though all the options
have the normal Norwegian
modification of an extended tail
chute, only two of the options
are in the now familiar overall
grey scheme. The earlier two
carry the original three-shades-
of-grey scheme; this weathered
heavily so it would be a great
choice for a really different
look for a Norwegian aircraft.

  • F-16BM, 78-0306, LHV Kjeller 1996.
#306 was the RNoAF MLU LTF (Lead
the Fleet) aircraft, i.e. the prototype
    for the modifications work performed
    at Kjeller, Norway.

  • F-16AM, 80-3666, 416 Flight Test
    Squadron, Edwards AFB 2008, 334
    Sqn, fin marking.

    • F-16AM, 78-0299, Lockheed Martin,
Forth Worth 1995, 338 Sqn, fin
      marking retained.

    • F-16AM, 78-0299, 332 Sqn, Rygge
2001. 338 Sqn marking on fin has
been replaced by the MLU OT&E
      marking.

CONCLUSION
Another nice sheet, and with
the commemorative schemes
and operational squadrons
you can build up a nice looking
theme of Norwegian Vipers.
Our thanks to Vingtor for the
review sample. which in the UK
can be purchased from Hannants.

Syhart Decals

V

ery rarely do Syhart
produce plain
schemes, but this
month they have produced
one of the plainest I have
seen. Colourful, but plain.
In the 1970s the Panavia
Multi Role Combat (MRCA)
fighter took to the air, and the
prototypes were all painted in
similar schemes of white and
red, with just different national
insignia depending on which of
the three nations assembled it.
In due course, the MRCA became
the Tornado and it has now been
in service for over 40 years,
though its days are now numbered.
In 2014, the German Air
Force decided to celebrate the
forty-year mark by painting one
aircraft in a scheme similar to the
prototype. What makes it even
more similar is that this airframe
was flown in clean condition
with no pylons, fuel tanks, or
refuelling probe, which really
shows off the aircraft’s lines.
Just like the real thing, this
sheet is quite simple, with
most of the sheet devoted to
stencils and walkways.

CONCLUSION
Another attractive scheme,
which for many people will bring
on a real sense of déjà vu.
Syhart sheets can be ordered
direct from the manufacturer

like colourful sheets you should
definitely visit their website.

supplying us with the review sample.

Werner Wings

T

wo months ago Werner
Wings released a sheet
called Vietnam Ace Capt.
Steve Ritchie and Friends,
covering the USAF pilots from
the Vietnam War who flew and
fought in the F-4C/D/E Phantom.
Produced in both 1/72 and 1/48
scale, the sheet has sold very
well. The manufacturer would
have liked to have produced
it in 1/32 scale, but wasn’t
sure if it would sell enough to
make it worth producing.
Werner Wings have been
working with Kittyhawk models
on a number of recent releases,
and this led to an offer from
Kittyhawk to underwrite the
production of a limited run of
just 200 sheets in 1/32 scale.
Even better, to add to the twelve
marking options already supplied,
they have added two options flown
by Colonel Robin Olds, a triple
ace with 16 victories from both
World War Two and the Vietnam
War. Markings are supplied for
two F-4C Phantoms. The first is
aircraft 680, from January 1967,
while the second option supplies

three different markings for
a single aircraft, 829, at three
different points in time between
May to September 1967.

CONCLUSION
I think this is the first time that
a mainstream manufacturer has

cooperated with an aftermarket
decal manufacturer to release a decal
sheet for a kit they do not produce.
And I am sure many large-scale
modellers will be glad they did,
although they will have to be quick
due to the very limited number of
these sheets being produced.

Werner Wings and Glen Colman
and Joe Lortie from Kittyhawk
Models for the review sample,
