Bullseye Decals

F

or nearly 50 years, the F-15
Eagle has been the main
guardian of the United
States, and with the small buy
of F-22 Raptors, this situation
is likely to remain the same
for the foreseeable future.
The latest sheet from Bullseye
supplies markings for F-15s based
at Tyndall and Eglin Air Bases
between 2003 and 2009. All of
the aircraft are finished in the
modified F-15 greys of FS 36176 and
36251, and none of the schemes
feature large areas of colour. Some
attractive nose art and unit tail
work means that this is as good
as it get on an operational Eagle.
Stencils are supplied for
four aircraft; also included are
placards for the undercarriage
and ejector seat. The instruction
sheets, covering over seven pages,
clearly show the application of
both stencils and unit markings.

Model Maker Decals

W

hy do you that
German World War
One subjects are far
more popular than British?
My theory is that this is down
to the rather drab colours in
which the British painted their
aircraft, and the very little
room for personal markings
to make things interesting.
But if you do not mind going
post-war, the Polish Air Force
used a number of British aircraft,
with the Polish checkerboard
national insignia, which alone
really brightens up a model.
Now Model Maker decals
have decided to release a sheet

in all major scales,
covering the Bristol
Fighter in Polish service.
As well as the
checkerboard, two of the
four options have been
repainted in a three-colour
camouflage, which will
also add interest to your
model. In 1/72 and 1/48 scale
these schemes are supplied
totally as decals, but in 1/32
scale two sets of masks
are used for most of the
major markings, including
the national insignia.
A small decal sheet is
supplied for some of the

smaller and more complicated
images, like the propeller blade
manufacturers’ markings.

CONCLUSION
A really inspiring sheet, although
for the less competent modeller
like me, I do wish the 1/32 scale
sheet had been supplied purely as
decals, as I fear that masking the
complicated checkerboard national
insignia is beyond me. I expect,
though, that for those with the
skills, this will probably look far
better than decals that in this scale.
An inspired choice of subjects
from this manufacturer, and I do
hope they consider producing
markings for the Wingnuts
1/32 Sopwith Dolphin, though
maybe in decal form, please.
Our thanks to Model Maker
Decals for supplying these decals
for review. You can see the full
range at http://www.ModelMaker.

Maker range is now being stocked
by Hannants in the UK.
